Reputation is the opinion (more technically, a social evaluation) of the public toward a person, a group of people, or an organization.

Seen from the trust point of view, reputation is an objective trust shared among all community members in opposition to subjective trust that is a personal opinion towards a person.
Automated Reputation systems calculate a reputation value for a person based on:
- trust towards that person declared by other members of the community
- positive or negative episodes directly experienced by community member with that person and declared to the system.
An important example is Ebay's reputation system.
