[edit] In the context of trust metrics

Seen from the trust point of view, reputation is an objective trust shared among all community members in opposition to subjective trust that is a personal opinion towards a person.

Automated Reputation systems calculate a reputation value for a person based on:

  1. trust towards that person declared by other members of the community
  2. positive or negative episodes directly experienced by community member with that person and declared to the system.

An important example is Ebay's reputation system.
